Went down to Shortwave this morning and paid our entry fee. Took down the Islander reel and the winner is also getting Islander hats. That way I can take their pic and send it off to Islander. God the Front Street ramps & charter boat slips are all covered in water including half the parking lot. After dropping the stuff off at Shortwave went down to Lakefront Promenade. Ramps are good but there's only two so that's going to get busy unless there's some more that I missed.

The Sail Club right next door, about 100 feet north , has two more ramps, parking as well. I think that's available to the public, but best to check with the Sail Club.

There are probably about 20 spots left. We are on track to sell out. There is no question that it will be messy without the river ramps. That being said, many boats are local to the area and already in the water, so we plan to carry on. Please be aware that the river ramps are almost certain to be closed. It is what it is.

You don't need to check with the sailing club. Despite what many of their members 'think', they don't own it!!!
It is a public launch 100%. And much better than the other where they always seem to be blocked later in the day with an assortment of yahoos who have zero concept about boat ramp etiquette. Total goat rodeo.

Just wondering if they will have someone down at Lakefront for the boys who are trailering their boats in as there are usually a number going in at the ramps.

Derby Update:

First of all, it's still on.

Secondly, there will be challenges with launching and dock space, because this is the case all over Lake Ontario right now.

Under the circumstances, we are offering a full refund for anyone who wants to withdraw -- provided that you notify Bill at Shortwave, by 4:00 PM on Friday, June 16. 905-278-6541.

If needed, you can also email me at: lambie@redbrick.ca.

If your name is on the list after June 16, please know that it will almost certainly be a bit of a gong show given the state of Lake Ontario ramps and slip demands.

Please plan accordingly and please be patient, especially during the derby.

1. The PC harbour ramps are closed, and the launch area docks are severely damaged. This ramp will be closed during our derby.

2. The charter docks are underwater, so those boats are now using and filling spaces at Port Credit Village Marina.

3. Marinas all over Lake Ontario are experiencing flooded docks, which means that visitor space is hard to find, anywhere.

ADVICE: Plan to launch as early as you can, and if possible, book a slip at Port Credit Village Marina for the Friday night.

There is a fee to stay overnight at the marinas, but it will make your life a lot easier, and the more of our boats that fill the Port Credit Village marina that day the better. In a pinch, participants at weigh-in can tie up to another fishing boat. Tying up to some dude's yacht will be trickier.

Port Credit Village Marina reservations: 905-615-4880.

You may be able to get space at Lakefront Promenade Marina: 905-615-4870.

For more information on these two marinas: www.mississauga.ca/portal/residents/parks-marinas.

You can also try the much larger Port Credit Harbour Marina, but I don't know if that marina will have visitor space. They are struggling to find spaces for their current clients. Several of their docks are underwater: 905-274-1595.

Boats that launch at Lakeview Promenade, or elsewhere, will have to motor over to PC harbour.

Registration and boat inspection will be managed on the pier in the harbour, so that boats don't have to come right into the marina docks. Once you have been processed, please head out to the staging area, to make room for others on the pier.

We have more than 30 boats registered and we are on track to sell out.

If you have an extra set of fenders, please bring them. During the weigh in and lunch, we may have many boats that need to tie-up to others. You may be one of them, and you may have a great opportunity to help someone else out.

One last thing: the City of Mississauga is making plans to redesign the harbour parks and launch area in Port Credit. The community at large has told them to make sure boats like ours have a bright future here. We have great community support, and we want to keep it. We hope that the derby will demonstrate the need to ensure the harbour has capacity to host events like this, and we want to demonstrate that we are terrific friends, neighbours and visitors. Please help us do that. Patience, cooperation, sensible parking, garbage goes in right place, and if possible, give some thought to supporting local retailers.

As usual, City of Mississauga staff have been amazing as we work through the high water challenges. Paul at Snug Harbour is also supporting us. His restaurant flooded two weeks ago and was closed for more than a week. He's taken a big hit. Please keep that in mind if you are looking for a place to grab a bite.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

To clarify, do you mean the pier across from the PC launch ramp (Snug Harbour breakwall)?

The pier in the middle of the river. Not right next to Snug Harbour. Right across from the charter docks that are under water.

Make sense?

Was in a ShortWave an hour ago and Bill said that he'd be checking boats in at Lakefront Promenade at the Boat Ramp as well.
