Wow  15 out of 20 fish.  Must have been fun.  Still waiting to experience a day like that.  How many rods in your spread?  Hoping the weather will cooperate this Saturday.  Heading out of Grimsby.

4 rods. 2 wire dipsy and 2 riggers. Had 4 on at once with 2 guys. That was crazy

I’m with you on that one I’ve never experienced a double or a triple while trolling

Hot spot was just north of grimsby. All coloured spoons worked but silver green and silver purple worked very well. We were running cheaters on the riggers

Thanks for the report.  We will try from Grimsby this Saturday if the weather is good (wind).  We usually run cheaters as well off the riggers.  Was there 2 weeks ago and caught only 2 fish off the riggers.  (45 fow down 18ft)  Green spoons.  Ran 3 riggers and a 5 colour lead core.

Hey, while I will post this also in the Kayak section (its not very active), can I ask how far out/off shore you are?  As a yak fisher and 'spoon-puller', I am a bit limited to distance.  I do/have run out into Erie off Wheately about 3 miles out and run parallel to north shore from about 1 mile off Point Pelee to past Wheately (each run about 2 miles).  I also have been 2-3 miles out into Huron off Goderich with same run/pass distance.  Those distances out are do-able.

I'd like to expand to try Lake Ontario because of the better chance for Chinook (Erie, small bows and walleye; Huron, lakers and bigger bows).

I hope to hear from you soon.

Not sure how far. Maybe 1 km depends on when you find the depth

Wow, only a Km?  I'm not even warmed up in a K.  HAH.  That's awesome!

The Fisherman's Pier/Weir....do you think there would be a problem with me dropping my yak in there?

Sorry for asking yak questions here...but as I said, the Kayak section is pretty quiet.

So, stars are aligning for possibly tomorrow.  Back to the "1km off shore" where you find depth.  I am noting 60-80' seems the common depth.  On the Lake Ontario depth chart then, off Fishermans Pier...in order to get that depth, it looks like 10km straight east out.  Off Bronte dock though, it looks like maybe 5km?

Sorry to be a pain, it will be a 2 hour one way to put the yak in the water....so, I am not back to...how reasonably far out our you guys finding fish?

Thanks for sure to any responses.

I think its only 4 km from FP  straight out.   it 60 feet  there.  you can start in 50 feet and work your way out.    Good luck.   Let us know how you do.   tomorrow is a calm day.

SO, stars did align and I got out off Fisherman's Pier yesterday morning.  TONS of boats going out.  Apparently, a fish yak is a rarity as setting up and heading out generated quite a bit of discussion.  IT was all good talk though.

Crystal clear day, fish flies bad but not a problem.  I chased the crowd of boats in front of me.  Set up a jet at 40' and 200' out...and played with the dipsy at various depths.  Ran various spoons colours and styles.  Had to hits, both on the dipsy...but nothing stuck.  I ended up WELL out in the Lake.....was literally beyond the last set of tall buildings in Burlington...and ran all the way back and forth to Grimsby.   Most times, I was with boats and running same speed as them.  I did not see a boat hook up....and back at the dock, apart from one guy whom reported "6 landed, two returned", most others talked only about 1 small Chinny only and the morning being slow.  So, imagine my surprise when I now read here...and WOW, there were a lot of fish being caught....A LOT!!!  hmmmm, is all I can say.

I was on the water by about 8:15 and off by 1:45...long day and lots of miles.  There was maybe 2 boats left on the water out deep when I came off...and one guy trolling at about 1 mile out....BUT a veritable navy worth of boats setting up to go out at the Pier.

I'm hoping to get back out soon, maybe this week again BUT....fish finder was not working well.  I used the transducer mounted off the back of my yak...but it took a beating on rocks and shallow water.  I moved it to inside the hull for a shoot through...and while it worked good there before, it didn't now.  Only thing I had was speed.  I will post this 'problem' in the Electronics section...so if you have suggestions, follow me there.

While no fish, was a great day....and I'll be back.  Love to have another yak'r join me.

Oh, my one other comment.  The old guy in the morning at the Pier was great and a real 'chatty-Kathy'.  A bit steep to set in a kayak ($15)....but it is what it is.  On the other hand, the lady whom was at the shack on my return though...NOT so nice.  Actually, a bit rude bordering on B+++h.

Nice to see you got out.   Many more calm days this summer.   Get yourself a 10 colour lead core set-up.   You can run one side dipsy and the other side lead core.  If you let out all 10 colours your lure will be down 50-60 ft with a spoon.   How many km were you out?

onelastcast1, I was easily 10km out....like I said, I was running a line from the last set of Tall buildings in east Burlington to the set of tall buildings in south of Grimsby.

Lead-core set up eh?  On a couple Huron charters i've done, one of the lines used is lead core.  Seems easy enough but isn't 10 colours like 300+ feet out?  Not a problem, I was running the dipsy 300' at times too.  I'll look into another set up for sure, thanks for the suggestion.

Teamuntouchable,  Yes, that was me = Ram-Kayak.

Ahhh, yeah.

So, the old guy said when I went out in the morning stay to one side (where I was parked) so the boats can launch and come off.  When I came out, I went there again.  The woman...was cranky....Hah.  In my defense...besides the fact the old guy told me to do it that way...WHEN I came out....there was nobody coming or going at that time.  Both sides of the launch were open.  In effect, it was 'my turn'.  HAH.

Regardless, glad you had room to put the boat in.  More the point, glad you didn't take my door off backing in...HAH.
