My old penn 209 still works well but the retreive ratio just sucks so I'm going to get a new reel. What do you guys like keeping in mind I'd kinda like to have 300yrds 30# braid backing on it?

A CV30 convector  will hold 5 colors with 300yds of 50#P.P.  Will do 300 yds of 30# no problem with room to spare. I got a great deal on some convectors a few years back (4 for $180 @ the London Show) so that's what I've been using seeing they mostly get used for walleye and don't take a ton of abuse.I would think a Sealine SG47 would hold aprox the same as the cv30 and in my opinion you get a better reel.

My CV 30 works great with 5 & lots of backing.Never been close to a spooling yet so it is realy up to YOUR comfort level. If you don't mind the little extra weight/size go with a 45 if you feel safer.

Daiwa Saltist 40 is what we are using. They are fast and have super smooth drags!

I just started using lead-core this past summer. Boy am I glad I did. It works for all kinds of fish. I planned on mainly using it for Landlocks, Browns and bows. But found it works well for smallmouths. Back to the question. I use Cabela's depthmaster 30's for my set ups. The main reason is it was cheap to get started. I bought my first one for 24.95 another for 34.95 and the last one 49.95 for rod and reel.
