I have 40LB PP as backing on my Leadcore. can I attach this to the palner board... or will I be losing my boards?

It should be fine. If you are concerned, wrap the braid around the open pad a couple of times.

Personally I like to splice a small 20' section of 20 lb mono between braid backing (double uni) and the core or copper. The mono will show signs of wear. With braid (pp) you get zero warning just SNAP...
