Leadcore Off Planers
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:10:42 am »
Hi Everyone,

I recently have set up a 10 colour leadcore rig. In the first outing I had about 5-10 hits off it but only managed to land one with all 10 colours out. Guess it will take some getting used to; any tips on keeping fish pined is appreciated.

Anyway, what I really would like to ask is if I wanted to only run 5 colours say, could I hook the leadcore line (27#) to a planer board - let's assume I am referring to both inline and mast boards? I know I can run it off the backing but might not always want all 10 colours out.

Thanks,
Steve

short answer.

yes, you can.

I have done it....but not often.

it depends on how far off the side you want to run your inline boards, or how far you want to run your lines to the side on a mast system.

you will have a "dip" in your line due to the weight of the leadcore going to the board.

Now, as long as that "dip" stays above the water line, your ok...

but if you run your boards too far to the side, and that dip starts to touch the surface of the water, that's when "I" feel you start to be at a disadvantage.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Steve
