I think you misread my post
Youve had 17 yrs to enter and this yr because of this i gave you another excuse not to fish.
Heres the deal.
Moving the weigh in to bass pro shops niagara will create the largest stage to promote our lake ontario tournaments. Sat afternoon is the largest crowd in the outlets possible, if we just get a small percentage of people to come watch we should be able to draw the largest crowd in any tournament ever. Most tournaments guys bolt on sun night because they work on mon. Now no excuse to do so.
Ask yourself.. Who wouldn't want a 700-1000 or more at a weigh in ?
But i do understand that this may keep some away like this ca bring some in. Either way though the show at bass pro will be off the hook because i think we have the best weighin now but bringing it there will be off the hook!
Keep an open mind. It might just be good!

I honestly hate the change but this is our drug lol I swallow the pre fish and just fish where we all know where they will most likely be. Just will take me more time to figure them out. But hey. That's what we enjoy doing.

Yvan I'll never deny the fact I didn't say anything negative about the change when we talked at the Niagara show. I also wasn't planning my tourneys/time off at that time. Hell, I had to do a few presentations that weekend, and public speaking terrifies me! What do you want.....I'm an internet keyboard captain. It's how people know me.
I'm glad the truth finally came out though. Being lied to about polling people was irritating me. You mentioned to me at the Niagara show this change was because of BPS, and trying to grow the presence due to the heavy crowds on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Am I a fan of that? Not really. Logistically, it's a pain in my ass coming over from the states in my boat. Luckily, we have one vehicle. Do I think it will help grow awareness of our sport in Canada? Most definitely!
Your two events and Niagara's 3 day event just added 3 additional vacation days to my schedule. That's why I'm irked. I want to fish all the events I can. I don't want to have to pick and choose. I don't care if I'm competing for a $40,000 first place prize or a $5,000 first place prize. None of us will ever get rich off of tournament fishing, or make a dime for that matter. Moving dates to satisfy a sponsor/potential sponsor at the expense of the field doesn't make sense to me. ESPECIALLY, after you grew and had a successful Spring event in 2015.
I still love ya, although a little less now, but I still can't wait to smell your nasty exhaust come the morning of April 30th!

WOW, when I first read this thread a couple weeks ago I thought great, it will draw a few more teams especially from the east and across the border.
In 2009 out first venture into fishing the KOTLs, there were 76 boats in the field. Since then it has significantly dropped in participants because of one reason or another. Main reasons I think is price of fuel and accommodations.
Our team doesn't fish the KOTLs recently because of my health situation. I always considered people do the things that they love to do on holidays. That is why we booked 2 days to pre-fish and 2 days for the tournament. We always enjoyed ourselves the weekends of the KOTLs and met a lot of good friends over the years.
Yvan has worked hard to grow these tournaments back to what they were years ago. It's not easy and you're not going to please everyone all the time. Just my opinion, but I think the new format is great. In the past I would arrive home on Sundays after the tournament weigh-in anywhere from midnight to 1:30 in the morning. Long haul to Whitby, park boat, and then head to Wellington.
give it a chance guys, you might like it.

Rick,
At first when i read stuff like this thread i cant help feel like personally getting attacked and when you put your heart and hours into stuff its not great. After reading concerns and complaints I have always been one to reflect on the matter and answer every situation and if I can't then we shouldn't make the move.. The fact that the pole has irked you, it shouldn't. There was never a pole, vote ect... there were calls made by me and conversations with various people including yourself. I want to say this though, I dont believe polls work because most times the loudest voices are the ones that have never fished or supported you. They rally guys and always find an excuse not to fish instead of finding a reason to fish. I think i have said this many times in the past.
I feel like tournament fishing has changed so much in past 17 yrs as well as us. Our sponsors I believe are the best. I feel the companies that sponsor these events are the ones that should be supported. Too many companies get supported that dont support the events and without the events they wouldnt have teams to sponsor. vicious cycle!! We have managed to survive with trials and tribulations along the way but very excited to be alive and kicking.
This yr we have worked hard with new prize structure on overall, with a banquet at the end of the yr for overall guys NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS!! With this I feel its imminent to get one of if not the biggest national fishing retailer in the world on board and thats making our little salmon tournament series somewhat of a mini bassmaster event like in the US. Thats the vision!! Is it going to happen? I dont know but I will throw my hat in the ring and will bust my ass to get it done.
With this though I'm sure every decision will not be liked by erveryone. Steve Jobs' decisions were never unanimously loved but my whole family now loves their iphone and what it does.
So... Let me say this. If you have ever been to a bassmaster event and you see the potential of such event here, I could have it on a tues wed and we would fill the marinas.
I want to say thanks to everyone that has piped up with comments and concerns. Its what keeps us going and fire in the blood.

Anyone watch last night's Republican debate?? Even the Canadians would have enjoyed the no holds bar drama on stage.
Anyway, if you did see it, this is looking like Yvan is Donald Trump in the middle and most others are Rubio and Cruz flanking his sides.
Rick-I come a long way to support your Oak event and now have to follow you way to the east to catch Lakers in order to infringe on your local home port advantage at that event
. That tourney is slightly loaded to support local guys IMO.. Does not matter tho.. I am coming anyway to support your tourney organization efforts and the community, the fishery, like the friendships at each port, love the competition and would rather fish rather than work. Its just my opinion not a complaint btw... If you wanted to run the event inside the Oak harbor and have us all trolling in circles, I am coming if it suits me.
Good debate fellas..

We are Planning to do the spring KOTL as it stands now even if the full team will not be able to fish on the Friday. We enjoyed our our first one last year and looking forward to this one. Everybody has a choice. Ivan we where impressed by your handling of the tourning and trust you to keep it the same or make it better. Lets just get fishing.
