Whitby's Chinook Arrival Just Days Away!!
« on: March 31, 2016, 02:04:41 pm »
Many dedicated volunteers across the north shore of Lake O are busy making preparations for the arrival of OMNRF's increased quotas of juvenile Chinook Salmon that will spend several weeks in soon to be deployed net pens, to be imprinted on their local watersheds or harbours. Metro East Anglers are very excited about the increase in quota at a number of north shore sites, such as Bowmanville, Oshawa, Whitby and Bluffer's Park. We really appreciate the work that's been done by various individuals and the donations we've received to fund the newly constructed pens to house more chinook and the need we had to purchase more feeders and provide additional food. If you're a Lake O salmon fisherman, the net benefit of these higher pen quotes should yield a further increase in returns of chinook salmon to local harbours and tributaries in years to come.

We are looking for some individuals to meet representatives from Metro East Anglers and OMNRF down at Whitby Harbour (marina building at 301 Watson Street) next Wed, April 6th at approximately 11 am to assist with transferring 25000 juvenile chinook salmon from the stocking trailer out to the pier and into the two pens that will be put in place this weekend. We are also looking for some volunteers to assist with regular care of the salmon, as they require regular feedings, and temperature monitoring 3 times a day, seven days a week, for up to 5 weeks or whenever temperatures dictate their release. It's a fantastic experience to watch these fish feed and grow, while imprinting on the local water body prior to release. We look forward to hearing from those who can come out to assist us. Please drop a response here, or send an email to pbaltovich@rogers.com if you can help us out.

Tight lines all!!
