First wire combo
« on: July 11, 2016, 12:19:09 pm »
Howdy all.  I'm Looking to add a wire combo to my arsenal. ;D
As I am a lefty with a semi limited budget.  This will be spooled onto a Convector 30DLX.
My question is:  Which line should I spool with?
Mason?
Torpedo 19 Strand?
Old timer?

Looking for ease of use and less kinks.

Thanks to any and all replies

I have only been using Mason 7 strand I believe so cant comment on the others...but I will tell you that wire is probably not as strong as you think. They do kink and if it goes unnoticed it makes for a easy breaking point.  Check the line for nicks/kinks just like you would mono or you will be donating gear to lady O or worse lose a beauty fish.

Good luck...

50lb braid backing 300ft, then fill with 7 strand (whatever is cheapest)
Been told 19 strand kinks less and is easier to use but is more expensive
I don't think id use old timer unless they have a multi strand line, my oldtimer line was only single strand
Give a fish and they eat for a day, teach them to fish they eat for a lifetime both in mind and body

Skip the backing, 1000 feet will be perfect on size 30 reel.  I like torpedo, 7 or 19 strand.  Can also use 19 strand in place of lead, same sink rate believe it or not.
