Replacing Downrigger Cable?
« on: March 18, 2020, 10:34:26 pm »
Hello I have 2 Scotty Propack electric downriggers that I want to replace the cable on. Just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to replace the rigger cables.

Thanks

its easier with 2 people, Ive done it a few different ways;

Method 1, you stand in the boat and run the rigger, your second holds the wired spool in hand with gloves on with a screw driver through the mid hole, your second applies pressure to keep it inline.

Method 2, you stand in the boat and run the rigger, your second walks the spool out to its end in the backyard and the ground will provide friction keeping the tension on it

Method 3, you get out in the lake and drop the spool over board, when under power you start reeling in the rigger and it loads the wire on

Few pointers;

make sure your guides are aligned with the middle of the spool of the rigger, if you do not do this you will load the bottom or top of the spool and it will overload that location and fold over the other cables causing it to bunch up and jump on you.

once you get out on the water slowly drop your rigger down and bring it in a few times to tighten up the cable and line it up properly on the spool so you don't rush drop it and snap off the cable

Give a fish and they eat for a day, teach them to fish they eat for a lifetime both in mind and body
