I am going to install a 80lb Terrova bowmount motor on a 17 ft Lund fisherman. Just wanted to know if you tilt up your big motor while using the bowmount or leave it down.

Leave it down. It stabilizes the back.

2nd on leave it down. I tie my steering wheel off with a strap so it stays straight and use a 6 hp kicker to push the boat and the trolling motor to steer.

Leave it down. Sometimes u may want to use your main motor as a rudder to combat “crabbing” from a cross wind.

I’m assuming that you will be using it to troll then leave it down but if you’re fishing shallow water where you may scrape your skeg on the bottom then I would lift the big motor.
