Chirp frequency to begin with?
« on: July 24, 2020, 08:29:00 pm »
Using my new sonar for the first time tomorrow.
Pretty basic understanding of high vs med chirp, and 83 vs 200khz.
But what do you guys typically use?

For sure Iíll experiment on the water, but curious what I should start with?

Thanks!

I have a few different displays I can choose from. My go to split screen is high chirp and 83

High CHIRP (200 kHz) is for inland and freshwater; best choice for lure tracking, identifying game fish and baitfish targets, or for targeting game fish near bottom structure. Best for depths less than 600 feet

Thanks guys.
Using medium chirp (and 83khz) gave me the best picture, marking my cannonballs and fish down to 150ft or so.  High chirp gave me a clear screen not marking anything other than bottom.  This was in mainly 150 to 250 fow.
Should high chirp work better?  just wondering if I need to adjust my transducer angle.

i seem to have best detail with medium chirp on my hds9 gen 3.
if i am trolling into the wind though and its pretty wavey i definetly do not see the balls as well in thewater because the current is blowing them towards the edge of the sonar cone

Was out last night and messed around with my settings. I found low/high frequency and 83khz gave me the best screen. On my Helix 7.

High frequency chirp on my Helix 12 is pretty awesome.   Figure out what's best for the lake you're fishing.
