Spring Kings ?
« on: March 05, 2021, 06:34:35 pm »
Hi Everyone . Hope you all are doing well. Has anyone heard of any reports?? Just wanted to get some insight on trolling for kings in the spring . How do you guys troll for them ? On downriggers ? Or dipsys ? I know they are relatively shallow this time of year . Any insight would be helpful . Thank you and best of luck on this year's fishing season !

The launch at Port Dalhousie is open.  Run by the St. Catharines Game and Fish.  Your best bet is flat-linning spoons or body baits in tight for Browns this time of year.  Look for the colored water and warmer temps.  Long leads while trolling is key.

We don't usually catch to many kings until Mid April.  One here and there but the big numbers don't arrive until later. They can be caught on a number of presentations usually between 20-50 fow with downriggers, dipseys and leadcores.  Spoons are the go to.  Magnum Dreamweavers, NK's, Warriors and Moonshines.  Super Slims work well in the spring as well. find the warmest, greenest water you can.  Online satellite imagery and temperature maps will be your friend. Warmest waters typically occur first around Jordan and can be pushed as far as Grimsby. Port Weller offers good fishing from the Canal to the Greenhouses east of the bay and never count out The Niagara Bar which will be very dependent on wind direction for the good nutrient rich water to stay on the Canadian side of the boarder. Tight Lines!
