In late april through mid-May I've had real good success using board lines for kings in the western basin Port D/Welland/Niagara area fishing temp, contour and color edges in 150 to 35 fow.  Leadcore 5-8 colors and plugs (reefrunners work well for me, change the hooks).  Spoons too.

Fish that were shy on the riggers and other gear seem to like the stealth and plug wiggle, especially when fishing pressure was up.  I think they're looking for smelt based on the success of the long body plugs.  Try chartreuse.  Don't be afraid to run high as the temperature and bait can be there.

April is a little early for Kings off the Oak,  the vast majority of the kings are typically further west on the Canadian side of the Niagara in April.  you might find the oddball, but it's be tough to target them at that time.  Shouldn't have any trouble finding cohos though mixed with the browns that time of year.

Best in spring so far is J-13 jointed rapala in chartreuse.  Top 30' of water.  The fish and I only head your way from the Can when water out of the river hits 55-60 degrees.  Can't beat the fishing along the plume.  85' of water seems to hold alot of fish at this time of year.
