Title: 38th annual St Catharines Spring Salmon Derby 2013
Post by: scgameandfish on March 06, 2013, 11:37:01 pm
here it is folks, the St Catharines Game & Fish Association is proud to present its 38th annual Spring Salmon Derby!

Some brief hilights:

We have started this years derby a week earlier and are going a week later then last year.

Everyone who buys a ticket, is entered in a draw for a Scotty HP2116 Downrigger.

Boat tickets available! And yes the "captain" may use it as a "single" ticket if fishing with friends aboard another boat, but of course everyone on that boat must have their own ticket as well.

Yes your allowed to enter the same fish in another derby or tournament provided all rules are followed

Tickets will be available for sale soon at our regular outlets! We have some returning and new sponsors on board. Those prize packages from 4th-7th places are LOADED with various gift certificates & tackle items.
Please support & thank all our generous sponsors for their support.

Finally we are "thrilled" have to Captain Vince Pierleoni of Thrillseeker Sportfishing as our guest speaker at our next meeting on Monday March 25 @ 730pm. this meeting will be held at the Port Dalhousie Legion (west side of the harbour) Vince will be getting us primed for the upcoming season by discussing some of the latest trends & techniques he has discovered recently as well as a short Q&A session. We will be selling derby tickets, launch ramp passes & club memberships as well.

We will also be bringing back a summer "Members Derby" and details for that will be released when they are finalized.

As I am new to these tourney's please forgive my stupid question.  If I purchase a "boat ticket" that would cover everyone in my boat regardless of them holding individual tickets, is that correct?

Steve

Yes it covers all people that fish in your boat. And I also think as I was told by a fellow SLA member that the boat ticket also covers the captain if he fishes on a different boat, but only the captain.

Correct me of I am wrong

Cheers JB

Best Spring Derby on the lake I wait all winter for this one thanks for putting together another great prize package .

These guys do tons for the fishery down at the south shore and many weekend anglers and tourney fishermen get to reep the rewards.

If I bought a boat ticket does it cover both the spring and members derby or is it just for the spring derby? And also wouldn't that mean anyone fishing the members derby with me would also have to be a member, or would the boat ticker cover them even as non members if the boat ticker itself is for both??

How do you know what is big enough to bring to the scales?
Is there somewhere online I can see weights per day?
I don't want to kill fish unnecessarily if they're too small?

Boat ticket would just be for the spring derby.  Members derby is seperate and you everyone needs to be a member to enter. (Memberships are cheap).

Fishdawg:
How do you know what to "hypathetically" weigh in day to day in this derby?
I should get a ticket.

Thanks,
Dave

Salmon
26# 8oz

Lake Trout
21# 2oz

Rainbow Trout
10# 4oz

Brown Trout
11# 4 oz

Thanks Nasty Boy. It would be nice if the club updated each night like the GOSD does, maybe they can add to this thread with updates?

That would be great!
If that's too much, what about every week?

Daily updates would be great but for the most part I've found they are updated more then just weekly.

Here's an idea how about every guy here fishing it take a pic of the board and add to this post eveytime you fish PD. The board at the ramp gets updated every time a fish is weighed in or called in from another weigh station.

The SCG&F has it's own site so you can expect regular updates at
http://scgameandfish.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tournaments&action=display&thread=804

You do not have to register to view the majority of items posted on the site.

No change in the standings usually indicates no changes.

At times we do not get the information from the weigh stations in a timely fashion, so don't panic when the board is not flashing your entry. LOL

You can always call the ramp for an update on the derby standings and lake conditions at 905-937-6335. Volunteers are normally on duty, dependent on weather conditions, from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Some of our younger volunteers (under70) may be there earlier and later.

Good luck to all participants!

Here's the latest update on the St Catherines game and fish.

http://scgameandfish.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tournaments&action=display&thread=842

Tony B strikes again in the trout category with a beauty bow! Nice going dude.

Kings starting to show up nicely on North shore now to go with the kings on South shore so maybe in the last week and a half of the derby we will see some more board changes.

We've managed a few kings each time out (trolling only 2 times so far...arghh!!!!) on a variety of baits but green seems to be the consistent color whether it's spoons, meat or Atommik flies with DW and Hot Spot paddles.

Thanks D, although I will be surprised if that Steelie holds top spot, could be easily beat.

To be honest, it was a bit of a fluke catch.  I was lowering the rigger, and had to stop to correct the boat steering into the wind, then when I started to lower it again the rod went off at 50' down  ;D

White Protroll flasher/Mag MC Rocket took her 8)

Weather looking good for a big final push, there are some big fish swimming around out there .
